Up and Adam!

Let me start with this…I didn’t even want to go.

You know how it is. Another “celebrity-backed” spot opening in Charleston, another Instagrammable cocktail list, and another round of hype. I’ve seen it all. I’ve helped create it all. From running nightlife in West Hollywood for Lisa Vanderpump—yes, PUMP and opening TomTom, I know what it takes to make a hospitality space work.

So when I heard about By The Way, the latest concept from Uptown Hospitality Group in partnership with Southern Charm’s own Craig Conover and Austen Kroll, I was skeptical. But… I went.

And I’m really glad I did.

👀 First Impressions Matter

Right from the door, the hospitality stood out. The security team was friendly, not robotic. The hostess? Warm, professional, and actually happy to be there. It felt intentional, something curated, not slapped together. Our server was the kind you want to sit and have a drink with after their shift. And speaking of drinks? Let’s just say, spot on.

Every cocktail that hit the table was on point—balanced, beautiful, and, most importantly, consistent. That’s rare these days.

😎 The Vibe: WeHo Lounge Energy Without the Ego

What really sold me was the vibe. By The Way has that upscale lounge feel you’d expect in LA or Miami, but without the pretension. On a Thursday night, it was full—but not packed shoulder-to-shoulder. The DJ was spinning a solid set, creating an energy in the room without overpowering conversation. You could vibe and actually talk. Imagine that.

The space feels elevated but relaxed. Think velvet bar stools, ambient lighting, and a crowd that somehow ranges from brunch girls to off-shift chefs to stylish creatives just off King Street. It works.

📍 The Location, The Concept, The Execution

Tucked just off North King on Spring Street, By The Way is perfectly situated to either start your night or end it. It’s close enough to the action, but just far enough to feel like a curated escape.

The idea was to create a cozy neighborhood spot that’s open all day…serving food, cocktails, and a healthy dose of Southern hospitality. And honestly? Mission accomplished. Uptown Hospitality (you might know them from Uptown Social, Share House, Bodega) absolutely knows what they’re doing. Partnering with Craig Conover and Austen Kroll added a little extra shine, but this place stands on its own. It’s not a gimmick—it’s a good time.

🥃 Final Thoughts

There are a lot of Bravoleb-owned or Bravoleb-adjacent spots around Charleston, but By The Way feels different. It’s grounded. It’s fun. It’s well-executed. And most importantly, it’s welcoming. That’s something you can’t fake.

In a world where good service is increasingly rare, this place reminded me of what hospitality is supposed to feel like—connection, consistency, and comfort.

So… will I be back?

Baller or Bust?

🍾🍾🍾🍾 / 5

Absolutely.

Whether you’re meeting friends, planning a night out, or just looking for a place to catch a vibe without the velvet rope energy, By The Way is 100% worth your time.
