Up and Adam!

As Harry heads back to California today, we look at Harry’s recent visit across the pond to the UK this week – squeezing in a charity gig, cracking a few questionable jokes, and finally meeting with King Charles after nearly two years. William, meanwhile, kept well away.

🤴 Tea With The King (At Long Last)

It’s been a whopping 19 months since Harry last saw King Charles — back in February 2024, just after Charles announced his cancer treatment. Fast-forward to 10th September 2025, and Harry finally appeared at the door of Clarence House again.

Harry has actually been laying the groundwork for this moment for a while. Not long ago, he publicly said: “I would love a reconciliation with my family. There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore. Life is precious.”

I wish Meghan had the same thoughts for her own family – especially her father. Harry’s comment had raised eyebrows at the time — an olive branch floated into the air, but no one was quite sure if it would ever land or if, after all those revelations, Harry could be trusted again.

The father-son chat? A neat 55 minutes — just long enough for a cup of tea and a Fortnum & Mason biscuit or two, not long enough to solve a decade of family drama. Still, royal insiders are spinning it as “brief but significant.” Translation: better than nothing.

😑 Why Kate, William & The Kids Steered Clear

So where were the Cambridges? William and Kate (plus George, Charlotte, and Louis) sat this one out — and not just because of school runs. A few reasons are being whispered:

  • William thinks the whole thing’s a terrible idea. He hasn’t forgiven Harry’s one-man confessional tour — Spare, Netflix, Oprah, the lot.
  • Charles’s health is still delicate, and too big a family circus might have been too much.
  • Plus, there’s the very real possibility of awkward silences over tea, and no one wants the kids asking, “Why doesn’t Uncle Harry come round more?”

On the day Harry arrived in London, on the third anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s death, William and Kate were visiting the Sunningdale Women’s Institute (WI) in Ascot, near Windsor Castle. The Queen was a devoted member of the Sandringham WI for 80 years and served as its president from 2003 until she passed away in 2022.

Kate was apparently a surprise addition to William’s visit that day, as he shared heart-warming stories of the late Queen and shared some more recent memories of his own family life, including his children.

👨‍🦰 Harry’s Dad Jokes (Yes, Really)

At the WellChild Awards, Harry tried to lighten the mood with some banter. He joked about his hair loss — “Before the beard, I had hair” — and teased a 17-year-old award winner about sibling rivalry, asking, “Does he drive you mad?” before adding, “Siblings… makes life more challenging, right?”

Not exactly Ricky Gervais, but the crowd chuckled politely. Some royal watchers, however, branded his humour “ham-fisted.” Poor Harry — still struggling to land the punchlines as well as he lands headlines.

🙄 William’s Royal Eye-Roll

While Harry was playing funny uncle, William was allegedly muttering “not a chance” under his breath. Reports say he considers the reconciliation a “terrible, terrible idea,” thanks to Harry’s past revelations.

Both William and Harry were so close, but yet so far away, with the brothers at one point being just eight miles apart in London during Harry’s stay. Eight miles! That’s a short black cab ride… or a brisk cycle if you’re feeling sporty.

Harry was visiting for four days, yet not even time a quick coffee? That’s not just frostiness — that’s permafrost.

🌴 Meghan’s California Staycation

And Meghan? Still firmly stateside. The official line is security concerns, school schedules and “keeping the focus on Harry’s cause.”

Unofficially? Let’s just say that walking into that particular family reunion would’ve been about as fun as stepping on a Lego brick barefoot. Ouch!

✨ What It All Means

So, what’s next?

  • For the public, this was less “healing the rift” and more “testing the waters.” Think of it as the pre-season friendly of reconciliation: nothing decided, but at least both sides turned up.
  • Charles cracked the door open. Harry got his cuppa. That’s progress — sort of.
  • William’s still digging his heels in, which means proper family peace talks are a long way off.

Until, the next round-up… keep it Royal!
