Up and Adam!

The royals never do things by halves, do they? We’ve had a new hair colour from Kate causing as much debate as a Bake Off final, a fond farewell to a Duchess who quietly rewrote the rulebook, and Harry packing his bags for yet another “blink and you’ll miss it” UK trip. Let’s get into it…

👱🏻‍♀️ Kate’s Gone Bronde (While George Steps Into Mum’s Shoes)

On Thursday 4th September, Kate stepped back into the public eye looking… well, different. The Princess of Wales has ditched her trademark glossy brunette locks in favour of a much lighter “bronde”, and making waves(!) with plenty of volume. Think sunny highlights meets posh mum glow-up.

Prince William and Kate made a joint appearance at the newly renovated gardens of London’s Natural History Museum, where her new look got its big reveal. It was the couple’s first joint outing after the summer break — and the perfect stage for Kate to show off both her hair and her humour.

Now, plenty of people love it — but, in true British fashion, some have taken to social media to mutter “nah, not for me, looks a bit washed out.” Even Princess Diana’s former hairdresser had to step in and tell the trolls to leave her alone. Honestly, imagine coming for Kate’s highlights — you wouldn’t dare.

As for the reason behind the change? No official palace statement (can you imagine the press release: “Her Royal Highness is simply bored of brunette”). But hair experts reckon it could be:

  • A nod to the seasons — lighter hair for autumn, why not?
  • A symbol of strength and fresh beginnings after her cancer treatment.
  • Or quite simply… too much time in the Med. Sun, sea and a few Aperols will naturally highlight your barnet!

And in the sweetest little side-note, Kate revealed that Prince George is already in her shoes. Literally. At just 12 years old, he’s already a size match with Mum — which makes you feel both ancient and slightly sorry for the poor boy who’s probably clomping around the palace in size 6s!

😔 Farewell to the Duchess of Kent

On Friday 5th September, the Royal family also said goodbye to Katharine, Duchess of Kent, who passed away peacefully at Kensington Palace aged 92.

Katharine was never your standard tiaras-and-tea royal. She was musical, down-to-earth, and often introduced herself to her pupils simply as “Mrs Kent” when she worked as a music teacher in Hull. Imagine being 12 years old, learning scales off a Duchess!

She was married to Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, a grandson of King George V and first cousin to the late Queen Elizabeth II. Together they had three children:

  • George, Earl of St Andrews
  • Lady Helen Taylor
  • Lord Nicholas Windsor

She devoted much of her life to young people and music — founding the Future Talent charity, supporting disadvantaged kids with big musical dreams, and working with organisations like UNICEF and the Samaritans.

Katharine was quietly close to several members of the royal family. She got on particularly well with Queen Elizabeth II (they shared a love of music and charity work), Prince Charles, and, in later years, Queen Camilla, with whom she maintained a friendly rapport.

She also quietly made history back in 1994 by converting to Catholicism — the first senior royal to do so since the 1700s. It was a deeply personal move, done with the Queen’s blessing, and a sign of her independence of spirit.

And who could forget the 1993 Wimbledon final, when she comforted Jana Novotna after her loss? That single moment summed her up: warm, human, and not afraid to break the ‘stiff upper lip’ mould.

🤨 Harry’s Flying UK visit: Will Charles pick up the phone?

So, while Kate and William were strolling through museum gardens, Prince Harry was dusting off his passport for a quick UK jaunt. He’s headed back for the WellChild Awards on Monday 8th September — conveniently landing on the third anniversary of the late Queen’s passing.

Here’s the Royal tea:

  • Harry wants to see King Charles.
  • Charles may or may not have the diary space (apparently Balmoral is lovely this time of year!).
  • Palace aides are trying to keep it very low-key — think private cuppa, not balcony wave.

Some insiders are calling it a ‘make-or-break’ moment for father and son. It’d be the first time they’ve properly sat down together since early 2024, shortly after Charles’s cancer diagnosis.

But — and here’s the kicker — Prince William reportedly thinks the whole thing is a terrible idea. Apparently, William believes that Harry’s past actions—such as releasing his memoir Spare, participating in the Netflix series Harry & Meghan, and giving the Oprah interview—have breached family trust. Translation: the brothers are still about as close as Wills and the Spice Girls’ reunion tour.

So, will Harry get his heart-to-heart? Or will he spend his days in London dodging reporters and wondering if he should’ve just FaceTimed? We’ll find out soon enough.

Royal Highlights (no pun intended, Kate!)

  • Kate’s bronde locks = divisive. George’s feet = growing fast.
  • We say goodbye to a quietly remarkable Duchess, remembered for her warmth and music.
  • Harry’s UK trip could be the start of a royal reunion… or just an awkward few days of unanswered texts.

Until, the next round-up… keep it Royal!

Joanne
