Why Meghan’s Latest Photo Shoot is Missing the Mark.
The Duchess of Sussex is the latest cover star for Harper’s Bazaar, and she chose to go with a “makeup-free” aesthetic. Now, on paper, a celebrity stripping back the glam sounds great. But for a lot of people watching Meghan’s journey, this latest move feels less like “natural beauty” and more like a very calculated PR pivot.
Authenticity or Performance?
The backlash started almost the second the images dropped. While her supporters are calling it “stunning,” a huge portion of the audience is calling foul. The main gripe? That Meghan is trying to “force” a sense of authenticity that just doesn’t feel earned.
Critics on social media and in the forums aren’t holding back. One of the biggest points being made is the sheer irony of the shoot. To the average person, “makeup-free” means rolling out of bed. For Meghan, “makeup-free” involves a literal army of the world’s most expensive dermatologists, lighting experts, and high-end photographers to make sure the “natural” look is flawless.
Is it really “authentic” when it’s curated by a multi-million dollar machine?
The Pamela Anderson Comparison
A lot of people are pointing to stars like Pamela Anderson and asking why she gets a pass while Meghan gets panned. But here’s the tea: Pamela’s move toward a bare face felt like a genuine, late-career rebellion against the “sex symbol” image she was forced into for decades.
With Meghan, it feels like another chapter in a long book of trying to control how the public perceives her. One minute it’s high-glam Netflix royalty, the next it’s “relatable mom next door.” Many onlookers are starting to feel like they’re being sold a new version of Meghan every six months, and the “natural” look is just the latest marketing strategy.
The Impossible Standard
Sources close to the Sussexes are claiming that she’s being held to an impossible standard and that everything she does is viewed through a “hostile lens.”
But you have to wonder: is the lens hostile, or is the audience just getting brand fatigue? When every move, from a walk in the park to a magazine cover, feels like it’s been focus-grouped to death, people are going to start questioning the sincerity behind it.
At the end of the day, if you have to shout about how authentic you are, are you actually being authentic?
One Response
I can’t stand her. Everything she does has to be made public. It comes off as desperation. She thinks way too highly of herself she is entitled, rude and fake. She will never get the approval she so desperately wants from the public because of the above. Genuine good people who unselfishly help others and are out helping their communities amd more do so in silence. Those are the hero’s, Meghan does it for selfish reasons and it comes off exactly like that. Stay under the radar, out of the media for a couple of years and do good things privately and humble yourself and things may be different. Nobody cares about attention seeking Meghan.
