Up and Adam!

Eric Adams Fires Back at Andy Cohen After New Year’s Eve CNN Rant.

Andy Cohen rang in 2026 with champagne, shade, and a rant that quickly crossed from Bravo territory into City Hall business.

During CNN’s New Year’s Eve Live, the Watch What Happens Live host went off-script while counting down the final moments of the year, taking aim at outgoing New York City mayor Eric Adams in a moment that spread fast online and did not go unanswered.

Andy’s On-Air Moment Spirals

As the clock ticked down, Andy appeared to compare Eric Adams to former mayor Bill de Blasio, whom he previously labeled the city’s “crappiest” mayor. This time, Eric was the target.

“I’d like to say, watching the final moments of Mayor Adams’ chaotic, horrible,” Andy began before trailing off.

He then appeared to confuse the dismissal of federal corruption charges with a pardon, adding, “Great, you got your pardons, go off in the sunset. We’ll, we’ll fiddle with what we have, with what you left us with.”

Even as co-host Anderson Cooper tried to stop him and B.J. Novak suggested Andy be “cut off,” saying, “He can’t help himself,” Andy continued.

“You pardoned your way through four years, and all the clubs, we’ll see you there,” he said while staring directly into the camera. “I just want to say, goodbye, Mayor Adams, you did it, you did it, you did it, didn’t you?”

Andy then pivoted to sarcasm, applauding Eric’s Office of Rodent Mitigation.

“But I will say this, I think he may have dented the rat population,” he said.

“I think he got rid of some of the rats, but isn’t that a metaphor of sorts?”

“Let’s call it as it is, honestly. It is 2026 and there are less rats.”

Eric Adams Responds Publicly

Hours later, after officially handing over the mayoral reins to Zohran Mamdani, Eric responded on X with a sharp rebuttal that focused less on policy and more on Andy’s behavior.

“My response to [Andy]: AA … Another sloppy drunken rant,” Eric wrote.

“If anyone actually cares about him, they’ll tell him to get help. New Yorkers aren’t laughing with him. They are concerned about him. Public intoxication is a disease. He should seek help … He was safe in Times Square because we did our job. Again.”

He followed up with another post, writing, “Seek help. AAA: Andy’s Alcohol Anonymous.”

Thoughts…

New Year’s Eve chaos has long been part of Andy Cohen’s brand, but this moment landed differently. When even Anderson Cooper is trying to physically shut things down, it is clear the situation has crossed a line.

Eric Adams was not amused, and whether viewers agreed with Andy or not, the response turned a messy TV moment into a full-blown political clapback.

Starting 2026 with a mayor publicly dragging Andy Cohen feels very on-brand for the year ahead.
