Prince William is reportedly keeping his guard up when it comes to Prince Harry, and one royal expert says Meghan Markle is the reason he’s not ready to wave the white flag.
Meghan Markle Labeled the “Flea in the Ointment”
Is peace between Prince William and Prince Harry even possible? Not anytime soon, according to royal expert Ingrid Seward.
Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine, told Fox News that the Prince of Wales and other senior royals have what she calls a “persistent lack of trust” when it comes to Meghan Markle. She went as far as to call Meghan “the flea in the ointment” in the brothers’ fractured relationship. Ouch.
The concern? That private family conversations could end up in the headlines — or worse, in another Netflix special or book deal.
Meghan’s Family Drama Adds Fuel to the Fire
Seward also pointed to Meghan’s own estrangement from her father, Thomas Markle, who has never met Prince Archie, 6, or Princess Lilibet, 4. Royal watchers will remember Meghan cut ties with him after the staged paparazzi photo scandal right before her 2018 wedding.
To some in the royal family, that family fallout is a red flag — and it’s only adding to William’s hesitation.
The Rift That Just Won’t Heal
Harry and Meghan’s decision to step back from royal duties in 2020 and relocate to Montecito set the stage for years of drama. Add in the Oprah interview, the Netflix docuseries, and Harry’s tell-all memoir Spare… and you’ve got the perfect recipe for a royal cold war.
Could William ever forgive Harry while Meghan’s in the mix? Royal experts aren’t betting on it. And as of now, any chance of a royal peace summit feels a long way off.
